At first glance, it may seem complicated. But the way your Ruud Air Conditioner works is quite simple. It’s really a mater of transferring heat from inside to outside your home. Indoors, air is blown across an indoor coil that’s filled with a continuous flow of refrigerant. This flow of refrigerant is pumped by the scroll compressor located outside in the condensing unit. The refrigerant draws heat and moisture from indoor air that’s circulated across the indoor coil and throughout your home. As the refrigerant picks up heat from inside, it transports it to an outside coil where that heat is released into the atmosphere. The refrigerant is then pumped back inside to do its job once again.

Standard on high efficiency models, these high and low pressure controls protect the scroll compressor from damaging pressure extremes. If the fan fails to adequately ventilate and cool the condensing unit, or if the refrigerant level ever drops too low, these controls are designed to immediately stop compressor operation to avoid damage. These safeguards help extend compressor life.
By removing just one panel, a professional service technician has full access to the inside of the unit. Once inside, all components are logically organized for quick diagnostics and service. This helps keep service time (and expense) to a bare minimum.
